I managed to this the last time but for some reason I can't get it to work this
time. I published my last flash site by creating a .swf file and a .html,
everything was fine and I uploaded the items and when I typed the web address
ending .co.uk it automatically started the web page, but at the moment it says
it does not exist unless I manually type ...co.uk/index.html.

Does anyone know how to get around this.

I hope this makes sense.

That seems like something that shouldn't be possible. I know windows based web
host prefer default.html but if there is no default.html it should accept
index.html unless maybe there is a setting the webmaster can set that only
allows default.html. btw what is the url?

is it a windows (asp) or a linux server?
if its linux, try making a file called ".htaccess" (without quotes). if this
fails, it's windows and i cannot help you.
Elseways, put this into the file (the whole line, without quotes):
"DirectoryIndex index.html"
